Expanding the Native Wellness Training Family: Native P.R.I.D.E.
“Native people will walk into the light of goodness and
beauty through a healing journey utilizing Native traditions, culture, and spirituality.” This is the mission of Native P.R.I.D.E. (Prevention, Research, Intervention, Development, and Education), an American Indian non-profit organization that helps Native people to live the “Good Road of Life” filled with HOPE and PRIDE. Founded in 2007 by Clayton Small, Ph.D. (Northern Cheyenne) and Maha Charani Small, Ph.D., the organization strives to accomplish its mission through the development and implementation of cultural and spiritual based programs that inspire wellness/healing, leadership development, and positive changes for individuals, families, communities, and organizations.
Two Native P.R.I.D.E. programs are already bringing wellness
to Native communities and our people. “The Good Road Of Life: Responsible Fatherhood” is a curriculum designed to assist Native men to strengthen their responsible fatherhood duties through individual healing that inspires > healthy relationships, quality family involvement, and family preservation. “Native H.O.P.E. (Helping Our People Endure)” is a peer-counseling (youth helping
youth) curriculum that focuses on suicide prevention and the related risk factors such as substance abuse, violence, trauma, and depression.
The Native P.R.I.D.E. office is located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with its programs implemented throughout North America and in
partnership with other Native organizations. The Native Wellness Institute is proud to have a relationship with our Native sibling organization, Native P.R.I.D.E.!
